The GastroEye project ‘Intelligent Endoscopic Videocapsules for Cost-Effective Screening of Diseases of the Gastro-Intestinal System’ was developed within the framework of the National Operational Programme Enterprise and Competitiveness 2014-2020 and aims to develop a system for the automatic analysis of videos of the gastrointestinal tract to detect and locate endoscopic lesions and anatomical landmarks, enabling their visualisation via augmented reality to support doctors and patients in diagnosis and decision-making.

At the heart of this technological infrastructure are wireless endoscopic video capsules – camera pills that transmit visual data wirelessly. The aim of the research project is to make these acquisition devices ‘smart’ and sustainable, to improve the quality of life of the population and gradually lower the costs of this screening process.
