Smart Rehab
DESCRIPTION
The project SMART REHAB “Innovative devices on advanced materials for applications in rehabilitation of the lower limb (ElectroReological Fluids)” has been developed within the ROP Sicilia ERDF 2014/2020 Action 1.1.5 “Support for the technological advancement of enterprises through the funding of pilot lines and early product validation and large-scale demonstration actions” and aims at the development, validation and demonstration of wearable rehabilitation robotic devices for the lower limb rehabilitation treatment of neurological and orthopaedic patients, integrated with virtual reality systems.
The research project is divided into 6 phases.
The first phase aims to define functional requirements, rehabilitation protocols and technical specifications of the system through the direct involvement of potential end-users.
This phase sees the strategic development of KET ER Fluids with the dual aim of achieving a performance increase that enables its use in medical applications.
This phase sees the design of wearable semi-active robotic devices with preliminary experimental verification on key aspects related to usability, workspace, wearability.
This phase aims at the realisation of prototypes and their validation in a laboratory environment (TRL 4), with subsequent upgrade of prototypes and validation in the relevant environment (TRL 5).
To be interfaced with Smart Rehab devices, to create an immersive/semi-immersive play environment during the execution of motor rehabilitation treatment for lower limbs.
The last phase sees the demonstration of the prototypes in the relevant environment by means of a clinical trial carried out in motor rehabilitation centres (orthopaedic and neurological) of the lower limb and the dissemination of the results obtained.
